Camp opening

The start of Camp

Border Music Camp starts with auditions and registration. Once these are finished, we have an assembly at 3:15 p.m., where we introduce all the staff and talk about the week ahead. Then everybody goes off to the first rehearsal, which finishes at 5:15 p.m.

The auditions

Auditions don't determine whether you come to Camp, but decide which of the morning groups you will enter. They also decide whether or not you will be eligible for the senior elective ensembles - senior big band, senior strings and senior woodwinds.

The auditions are incredibly friendly. It's just you, and two tutors who play your instrument – you don't have to stand up in front of a big bunch of people!

The auditions are very important, and you should carefully choose a short piece. We cannot provide accompaniment for the auditions, so you should choose a piece that is effective without accompaniment.

All students are auditioned. Using the information provided on the application form, students are provisionally placed in groups, and placings are confirmed or changed after the auditions.

Auditions commence at noon. You will be notified of your audition time in the acceptance letter.

Registration

Registration is from 12:00 noon in the Cultural Centre. Tea and coffee are available.

The opening assembly

At the opening assembly, you'll meet all the staff, hear about the elective ensembles, and be given the Camp rules.

The first rehearsal

The first rehearsal is very important - the conductor will talk about what's going to happen during the week, and you'll read through some music. It is compulsory, and goes from about 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
